Still Life: The Myths and Magic of Mindful Living

From renowned yogi meditation teacher and author of Do Your Om Thing Rebecca Pacheco comes Still Life, offering an in-depth exploration of mindfulness and meditation misconceptions to arm the reader with inspirational and practical tools for cultivating a consistent mindfulness practice.

For years Rebecca Pacheco has taught readers and students alike how to embrace the wisdom of the yoga sutras and reap the mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits of the ancient tradition. Now, in Still Life, she turns her focus to mindfulness, demystifying a seemingly esoteric practice and giving readers practical, real-life tools to implement mindfulness in their own lives.

A contemplative life, Pacheco argues, isn’t synonymous with bliss, but rather requires a degree of mental, emotional, and spiritual grappling. Still Life challenges readers to dig deep and develop the tools that can ultimately lead to joy—including to waking up in the present, reclaiming the moment, and living life fully.

Rebecca Pacheco is the author of Do Your Om Thing, which was named one of the “top ten yoga and meditation books every yogi needs” by Yoga Journal. She frequently contributes to the Boston Globe, covering a range of topics from wellness to the natural world, culture and creative life, mindfulness amidst chaos, and parenting in the present. A yogi and meditator since her teens, Rebecca studied English Literature at the University of Richmond. She lives in Boston with her family, where she enjoys stillness and movement in equal measure.

Moderator Joanna Rakoff is the author of the international bestselling memoir My Salinger Year and the novel A Fortunate Age, winner of the Goldberg Prize for Fiction, the Elle Readers’ Prize, and a San Francisco Chronicle Bestseller. Rakoff’s books have been translated into twenty languages and nominated for major prizes in The Netherlands and France. She has written frequently for The New York Times, Vogue, Marie Claire, O: The Oprah Magazine, and many other publications.
