Join Brookline Booksmith and Kalynn Bayron in a celebration of queer girls of color, tough choices, and fairy tales turned on their heads! Kalynn’s new YA retelling Cinderella Is Dead is a gothic, feminist feast of bravery, anger, and unexpected answers.
In a country where every girl is paraded by law in front of noblemen whose proposal on whim might change–or ruin–their lives, being a teenager in love is an agonizing thing. To be a teenage girl in love with another girl? Even more painful. But the loss of first love might be the least of Sophia’s problems. As she finds herself unable to bear the constraints of her society, and as she is drawn into the machinations of the throne and the fierce battles of those who oppose it, the world around her seems to become more and more nightmarish.
But nightmares sometimes end–and maybe, once she’s not alone, Sophia can wake the world up.
Kalynn Bayron is a debut author and classically trained vocalist. She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. When she’s not writing you can find her listening to Ella Fitzgerald on loop, attending the theater, watching scary movies, and spending time with her kids. She currently lives in San Antonio, Texas with her family.
