Tips & Tricks for Holiday Shopping

It’s been a pleasure to welcome you all back into Brookline Booksmith after the shut-down, and feels good to return to the Coolidge Corner community we love!

This year, we are all learning to be a little more flexible and prepare for unknowns; shopping for the holidays is no exception. We've been working hard to make sure you all have the best shopping experience possible. As we get into the holiday season, we may face dynamics out of our control that could impact our ability to provide the highest possible customer service we are accustomed to delivering.

With this in mind, we wanted to give you all a few tips to help reduce your shopping stress while helping you find those perfect gifts for family and friends. Here they are!

 

1. Shop Early!

This is easily the #1 most important tip for holiday shopping this year. By shopping early, you help reduce the December crowds and ensure that you get the gifts you want. Given our new capacity limits, it will also make sure all of our wonderful customers who like to shop with us in person during the holidays don’t have to wait in long lines to get in.

 

2. Know What You Want in Advance

One of the joys of shopping in our store is talking to our welcoming and knowledgeable booksellers to get recommendations on the perfect books for your loved ones. This year, we brought that experience to your home by enhancing our website with beautifully curated holiday collections and other book lists, hand-picked by our booksellers. You can also find bookseller recommendations on our blog, and general browsing has been designed to complement our in-store feel. We suggest you browse ideas at brooklinebooksmith.com before coming into the store, so you know what you want in advance.

 

3. Have Family and Friends Create an Online Wish List

Maybe this year you want to do some of your book gift shopping at brooklinebooksmith.com. Why not ask loved ones to create a Booksmith wish list? This handy feature on our enhanced website can help you get exactly what your family and friends want this holiday. Just have them set up an account with us, browse collections and books, and select “add to wish list” as they find items they want. The first time they “add to wish list,” they will be asked to create a custom list. Once complete, they can find the wish list and “get sharable link” in their profile, then send it to you and others! When you shop from their wish list online, items will be tracked and shipped to the right place. It is easy and fun!

 

4. Make Extra Time for Shipping

Increased demand for shipping services this year has caused numerous delays with USPS and private shipping options. This issue will likely worsen as folks opt to mail their holiday gifts instead of bringing them in-person. It’s important to shop and ship early, so leave yourself extra time for items to arrive and take advantage of our USPS Media Mail and Priority Mail options at checkout.

 

5. Buy Booksmith Gift Cards

Gift cards give recipients the power to pick out exactly what they want, and can be used in person, online, or over the phone. We won’t run out of gift cards, and we can ship them at no cost to you anywhere in the US. They’re a quick, easy, and reliable gift idea!

 

We hope these tips help make the next two months a little easier for you. There have been a lot of changes in our store lately: our 4000-square foot expansion and renovation, including our soon-to-open innovative food and beverage concept The Novel Kitchen; a refresh of the store to open aisles and add more space for our kids and gift sections; our enhanced website for online browsing; a curbside window for minimal contact order pick-ups; and the implementation of COVID safety measures, including separate entrance and exit doors.

All of us deeply appreciate the love and support our customers have shown us, especially during the pandemic; you have been incredibly receptive and open to adapting to our collective new normal.
