I tend to be a very eclectic reader. I read romance, literary fiction, history, young adult, fantasy, short stories, gender studies, dystopian science fiction, essays, new releases, classics, and weird bonkers books that are super ridiculous (a novel about an alpha were-hedgehog shifter? I’m there). I am not always a comprehensive reader—I find niche subgenres, themes, authors, and topics that strike my fancy.
One such little niche is how women experience this world which can be so cruel to them. Women (and women-identifying and presenting folks) often encounter a world that is more unforgiving than it is to men, and sometimes even more dangerous in its everyday interactions than in its world-shattering events. I love reading about these figures—fictional and real—who bring the knives of their conviction, desires, courage, and minds to this dark battle. It’s gritty, dirty, heart-wrenching work but they get to it. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes not, but they always leave a mark.
